About
I grew up in a house where the photo albums lived on the bottom shelf so children could reach them. I have looked at my parents' wedding album more times than I could count, and the pictures I return to are never the posed ones. They're my grandfather laughing, my mother's shoes kicked off under a table.
That's what I try to make for you. I studied painting, worked in a darkroom for four years, and picked up my first wedding by accident when a friend's photographer cancelled. Two hundred weddings later, I still think it's the best job there is.
I shoot with a small kit, mostly available light, and a second photographer for full days. I edit every frame myself, warmly and without trends, so the pictures will look right in a decade.
When I'm not photographing I'm in the garden, at the farmers' market, or trying to teach a very stubborn dog to sit.
I don't rush the day and I won't rush you. Twenty unhurried minutes of portraits at the best light beats an hour of posing.
Window light, late sun, candles if that's what there is. Flash only when the night truly needs it.
No skin smoothing, no swapped skies. The people in the photographs are the people who were there.
